75 Million in Supplemental Funding to States for Pandemic Flu Preparedness

HHS Secretary Mike Leavitt today announced that the Department is making available another million to states, territories and four metropolitan areas to help strengthen their capacity to respond to a pandemic influenza outbreak.

Each year, millions of people contract influenza and flu-like infections in the United States, resulting in over 100,000 hospitalizations and approximately 20,000 deaths.
